Sunlight and Stories |
Hello there. I'm a college undergrad who tends to obsess over good tales in any format. Current obsessions include Sherlock, Merlin, Doctor Who, Lord of the Rings, anything written by Neil Gaiman, Skulduggery Pleasant, Downton Abbey, Misfits, Avatar: The Last Airbender and Harry Potter, in addition to whatever book I'm reading at the moment. |
I think that yes, there is a lot of sexualization in this fandom. No, it’s not a bad thing. I totally understand where you’re coming from, though, in that sometimes it’s nice to enjoy the canon story the creators and actors have given us, and politely put aside all the sex.
I think there’s a significant enough percentage of Sherlockians who feel this way; I know I do. I guess in the end we just have to remember that some people love to ship characters and write slashy fiction and that’s fine, and other people like to stick with celebrating a damn good story and its fantastic characters and that’s fine too. A healthy fandom should have many facets, and I think you’ll find a lot of people in the Sherlock community recognize this, and strive to respect each other and their interpretations of this awesome show. And when they don’t, then I think all you can do is ignore them in favor of those who don’t judge you based on what you ship or don’t ship.
Right, getting off the soap box now :)
